Artist's Statement The creative process, to me, is serious and whimsical, demanding and entertaining, laborious and recreational, but always challenging! As an artist, I am never completely satisfied with a particular finished piece of art, but discover myself to be in the continuous process of growing and learning. I realize that the more I create, the more possibilities I see for expressing my feeling and ideas. I have always liked the definition of art as "an attempt to bring order out of chaos." I find this applicable, not only to a specific painting I am involved with, but to the more demanding art of living in a harmonious relationship with the rest of my life. Therefore, I choose to draw or paint landscapes or florals to interpret the beauty and mystery of nature. Also, people and their dwellings provide stimulating subjects. Recently, I have begun to draw and paint particular historical people whose lives were committed to a search for truth and non-violence. This enables me to explore content that is more profoundly religious and philosophical. Gandhi is an obvious subject which I have used several times. It is my intention to combine paintings, drawings, written quotations, voice, and music into an ever-growing and changing exhibit. The purpose of this showing would be to provide people with an opportunity to experience, through art, ideas and concepts which are basic to their interaction, if not survival, with other people and the planet itself. This theme has interested me for many years, and it is not my intent to preach or shock, but to communicate positive, thought-provoking ideas with as much insight and feeling as possible. My daily pursuit is to grow and learn, share my thoughts and emotions with others through art and at the same time be commercially successful. |
